Well, my brother Paul will be shocked, and somewhat disappointed, that my first blog posting is not to our family blog, but to this fantastic blog connected with the Artists in Dialogue 2 exhibition. I am the museum's Deputy Director & Chief Curator, and I have been out of the country for the ENTIRE construction of this exhibition. The blog postings have enabled me to track the progress of the exhibition from afar and to share in the excitement of a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the exhibit as it develops. Curator Karen Milbourne is to be commended for her work on the exhibition and this blog. I also want to thank the two feature artists, and the terrific staff we have at the museum, for working together to realize this exciting exhibtion. I know our staff brings much creativity to this work and that Artists in Dialogue 2, while a collaboration between artists, is also a collaboration between the artists and our staff. Importantly, the blog has allowed me to meet for the first time, virtually, Henrique Oliveira (it's a pleasure!), and to see again my colleague Sandile Zulu (hi Sandile!)-- all bundled up against winter's chill! I have found that their postings provide important insights on the creative process.
